Fifteen years ago, I lived and worked there for a while, an adventure that had a profound and everlasting impact on my art and my inner core. I felt a deep connection to the Empty Quarter. In this desert, everything merged into a unified whole, embedded in a silent infinity. Never before had I been so close to the creativeness of eternity. At some moment, I held a shell in my hands. That experience is indelibly imprinted in my consciousness. A crystal-clear impulse flooded through me: to celebrate the majesty of the wonder of manifestation on our planet – Through reduction, through elevation of the seemingly simple, through surrendering to indescribable beauty and great unity within the power of creating. I gilded the shell. It was everything. Inexpressibly all-encompassing. Resting in its existence. The ESSENCE was born. All my further artworks were born out of this pure and sacred charge.

Within THE ESSENCE the medium is not merely a tool for the artist’s expression, but is the core of the artwork itself. Precious metals such as gold, silver, palladium and platinum, as well as organic substances such as rare crystals, sand, oils, shells, bones and preserved animals, are not used for decorative or symbolic purposes. They are used for their inherent physical and energetic qualities – for what they are, not for what they might represent. The artworks are the result of a deep, hands-on knowledge of alchemical processes, traditional gilding, preparation of natural materials and intuitive composing. Every layer, every surface, every transition in the artworks is the result of patience – embedded in a close engagement with the substances themselves. Casmina’s approach is one of listening – she let the material drive the art process. Nothing is enforced, nothing is overwhelmed. The material is given the space to reveal its own inherent energy. THE ESSENCE offers a precious and rare quality: stillness, depth, unfiltered experience.

For over 30 years, Casmina has been travel the world in the footsteps of places of power where nature still speaks in its purest form. From the icy silence of Antarctica to the sacred heights of Mount Everest, from the untamed rhythm of the Serengeti to the windswept expanse of the Empty Quarter, the purity of the deserts of Arizona and the Rocky Mountains…On each trip, Casmina collects material for her artworks. Earth, sand, plants, stones, bones, crystals…
In the artworks, they merge into a living field.The creative process begins long before she enters her studio.
It starts with an encounter; when she wanders across a countryside, listening to its pulse and allowing herself to be guided. Each work is created from this very intimate connection.
