An artwork that can exist only once, from a place that can never be replaced.
Casmina Magdalena Haas presents a new form of site-specific private commissions: an artwork created from the physical substance of a place that embodies personal history, identity, and legacy.
For each OBJECT OF ESSENCE – ON SITE Haas personally travels to the selected site – an ancestral estate, a private home, a desert landscape, or a place of special significance. There, she interacts with the land and collects a small amount of its natural material: soil, sand, minerals, or other elements that are inextricably linked to the site. The land itself becomes part of the artwork.
Through her unique artistic approach, these materials are subsequently transformed and brought into communion with precious metals and mineral pigments. The place is not merely presented; it becomes physically present within the artwork.
For select commissioned works, Haas creates the artwork directly on the site itself, thereby uniting origin, artistic process, and place in a uniquely creative act.
Each work is intrinsically linked to the land from which it originates – and designed to carry its essence across generations.
The land becomes the source.
The site becomes the studio.
The artwork becomes a legacy.
A part of the place, eternalized.
